PeEll, I'm the founder of Yorba, the open source group that develops Shotwell. Thanks for your feedback on Shotwell, and I'm sorry to hear that you were disappointed by some aspects of it. I believe that you were using Shotwell 0.5. The upcoming Shotwell 0.6 includes a Preferences dialog which lets you specify where you'd like photos to be imported. We're planning to release 0.6 before the end of this month (June 2010). (Our development for this release is featurecomplete and we're just fixing bugs at this point, so feel free to build from source as described on our Web site if you'd like to try this out now). I'm not sure if you realize that you can also add tags to photos in Shotwell by dragging the photos to a tag in the sidebar. We'd like to add tag autocompletion to a future release to make it easier to type tag names (see http://trac.yorba.org/ticket/1334). Ubuntu 10.10 will ship with Shotwell 0.7, which will have features and fixed beyond those offered in 0.6. Shotwell is a young program and is under active development. I hope you'll give Shotwell a second chance - if there are other features you want don't hesitate to get in touch. Thanks!

What I would like to add here is that Shotwell has been updated to 0.9.2, it is a bug fix release. Some of the bugs they got rid of are: Cancelling Flickr upoload causes crashes. Creating a new album with an ampersand(&) in the name causes crashes.
